BERLIN – Germany’s antitrust agency on Thursday approved the creation of a joint venture between German defense contractor Rheinmetall and state-owned Ukrainian Defense Industry (UDI).

The joint venture will be based in Kiev and will deal with service and maintenance for military vehicles there, so that there are no competitive overlaps in Germany, the cartel office said.

Rheinmetall is a manufacturer of military vehicles, including the Leopard main battle tank and the Puma infantry fighting vehicle.
