Hans Niemann called Carlsen “a bully” when a Piers Morgan interview with him was published on Monday.
TV 2’s Sverre Krogh Sundbø asked him after the last place was secured on Tuesday whether he considered himself “a bully”:
– In general, I can say no!
When pressed further about Niemann’s statements, the best chess player in the world replies:
– I’ll probably talk about it here someday.
He does not elaborate further.
Hans Niemann stated in the interview with Morgan:
– Of course he’s a bully. He uses his empire and his connections. A fusion is happening and he has it attack me.
The merger Niemann refers to took place when chess.com acquired the Play Magnus group in December 2022.
Magnus Carlsen has won three of the four CCT tournaments he participated in earlier this year. On Wednesday he will meet Frenchman Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in the first final.
After a draw in the first two games against “Nepo”, Carlsen won the third with white pieces after 47 moves.
It meant that the Russian managed to win the last match. And Nepomnjashchij was well over, but Carlsen defended himself vigorously and secured a draw after 129 moves. And therefore a place in the final.
– My brain wasn’t working, says Carlsen in an interview on chess24.com.
– But Jan also missed things.
Carlsen says to TV 2:
– It wasn’t a well played match.

– He’s playing very well. It will be a nice challenge. If I am well prepared, I have a good chance.
