Sonia, who has lived in that property since 2009, said that “the upper floor fell apart.” “We were left with nothing,” she lamented, though she was grateful to be alive.

Moments of sadness and uncertainty were lived after the collapse of a two-story house in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Floresta that left at least two dead and 21 injured. While the rescuers continue to work in the place, several neighbors and even victims who were unharmed remained expectant on the sidewalk, in front of the place where the tragedy occurred. Among them was Sonia, a woman who had lived on the property that collapsed since 2009 and who witnessed the disaster.

“We don’t know what happened. From one moment to the next it sounded as if it had burst. The upper floor fell apart,” recalled Sonia, who explained that in the house there are “like rooms where families live.”

The place is very unstable and very dangerous, explained Alberto Crescenti, head of SAME.

Meanwhile, he was anguished because the products he sells on the street were also inside the house: “I sell on the street. My merchandise was left there. I was left with nothing. What am I going to go out to sell and on top of that now with all this from dollar, where am I going to get it. I ran out of money and without merchandise”.

“Working I will try to get money, but my life came first,” he closed.

The details of the tragedy

“A two-story building has yielded. We have rescued eight injured. Unfortunately, there is one deceased, a man of approximately 35 years, due to falling debris,” confirmed the head of SAME, Alberto Crescenti, in dialogue with TN. Little more An hour later, he reported that “a minor under 12 years of age lost her life in this accident” that took place on Avenida Rivadavia at 8,700.

Crescenti indicated that the rescue tasks were made difficult because “in the part inside the place it is very unstable and it is very dangerous.” “There were a lot of people,” he added, though he couldn’t pinpoint the reason for the collapse. Neighbors of the place indicated in that same news signal that “about 35 families” lived in the collapsed house, that is, “about 150 people.”

“It is a house with a mezzanine and a subsequent construction. Two floors have fallen,” described the head of SAME, who stated that ten injured were transferred to the Piñero, Álvarez and Santojanni hospitals. A woman with “polytrauma, various fractures and conscious” was referred to this last health center.
