Los Angeles police shot dead a woman armed with a metal pipe in Tarzana on Sunday. The officers came to reports that the woman had assaulted several people.

Officers arrived at the intersection of Reseda Boulevard and Hatteras Street around 8:30 a.m., where they encountered a woman holding a pipe, according to Officer Rosario Cervantes, an LAPD spokesperson.

“The suspect, described as a woman in her 30s, attacked several people along Reseda Boulevard,” Cervantes said.

The officers found the suspect in the parking lot of a gas station, the LAPD tweeted Sunday afternoon. During the encounter, officers used a stun gun and fired a “non-lethal foam bullet” before firing, police said.

The suspect was hit by gunfire. She was taken to a local hospital, where she died, police said. She has not been identified.

No officers were injured in the encounter.

Police said victims of the attack suffered “serious head and facial injuries”.

“This is an ongoing investigation, as detectives will review body-worn videos, any surveillance videos, and interview witnesses and officers involved.” the LAPD tweeted.
