WASHINGTON — Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg filed suit Tuesday against Republican House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, asking a court to block elements of the congressional investigation into his case.

Bragg called it an “unprecedentedly brutal and unconstitutional attack” on an ongoing investigation, saying in the lawsuit filed Tuesday that allowing Jordan’s demands, including subpoenaing former assistant district attorney Mark Pomerantz, would “imminently would cause irreparable harm if the classified and privileged material is forced to be made public.”

Bragg’s lawsuit asks the court to block a subpoena from Jordan to Pomerantz. Jordan, R-Ohio, wants Pomerantz to sit for a statement as part of the judicial panel’s investigation into Trump’s charges. The former president last week pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with his alleged role in hush money payments towards the end of his 2016 presidential campaign.

“Chairman Jordan’s subpoena is an unconstitutional attempt to undermine an ongoing criminal prosecution and investigation in New York,” Bragg said in a statement Tuesday. “As our complaint indicates, this is an unprecedented, unlawful interference by Congress that lacks any legal merit and violates the basic tenets of federalism.”
