Maryland police said the security guard for four teens arrested last week for auto theft arrived to pick them up in a stolen vehicle.

Charles County Police Department said officers patrolling Waldorf, Maryland, saw two Hyundai vehicles in front of a business around 1 p.m. on May 16. A computer check showed they had been reported stolen.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic check, the drivers of the two vehicles sped off.

At the same time, a dispatcher took a 911 call about a group of suspects entering a business and stealing merchandise before fleeing in two vehicles that matched those the officers were trying to stop.

The suspects got out of the vehicles in a parking lot and attempted to hide, though officers were eventually able to apprehend them without further incident.

From the two vehicles, police arrested 18-year-old Deshaun Deamonte Whitaker and 21-year-old Vincent Lee Alston, both of Washington, D.C., who were both charged with theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and felon and vagabond.

Police said a female guardian would collect the four youths, but the guardian and two other women arrived in what appeared to be another stolen vehicle, which left after the three women were dropped off at the police station.

Officers found the vehicle on a nearby street, reportedly with a broken rear window and damage to the steering column. When officers ordered everyone out of the vehicle, the driver fled and nearly hit one of the officers.

All occupants got out of the vehicle after the driver drove a short distance and it was determined that the vehicle had been stolen from another jurisdiction.

Anthony Matthew Stewart, 19, of Washington, DC, was driving the vehicle and was arrested after a brief foot chase. He was charged with first and second degree assault, unauthorized use of a vehicle and providing a false name to police. Stewart also reportedly had active warrants for his arrest.

Three youths were also arrested in the vehicle. One of the youths, a 16-year-old boy, had active arrest warrants and a 13-year-old girl was reported missing from another province. All three youths were charged with theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The three women who picked up the four youths earlier that day — Carlisa Monnae Blackeney, 18, of Washington, DC, and Mahkiyh McQuinn-Woodly, 18, of Hagerstown, Maryland — were charged with theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, providing a false name, and rogue and vagabond.

Both Blakeney and McQuinn-Woodly were released on $2,000 bond, while Stewart was held on $25,000 bond.
