Marcos Galperin’s company will hire 13,000 people in the region, contrary to the layoffs in technology companies.
Mercado Libre, the e-commerce and financial services platform of businessman Marcos Galperin, announced that this year it will incorporate some 13,000 people in the region, mainly in its Technology, Product and Logistics areas.
In Argentina, they will add 800 jobs. There will be another 5,800 in Brazil, 5,350 in Mexico, 600 in Chile, 600 in Colombia and 150 in Uruguay. In total, the firm will have a team in Latin America that will exceed 50,000 people by the end of the year.
The platform’s hiring plan contemplates the incorporation of some 11,000 employees in the logistics area, more than 1,700 professionals in the Technology area, which is the heart of the company’s operations, and another 600 in the rest of the areas.
In Argentina, in particular, 400 people will join in Technology (IT) and Product, 150 in the Logistics area and 250 in Business and Staff, said Carolina Miranda, the company’s senior director of Talent.
“Basically in the local market we are going to add data engineers, information security and product development profiles, as well as shipping representatives, among other positions,” he said.

According to the directive, “for two years, the platform has been working remotely with optional face-to-face,” he said. “That is, each person can choose the work scheme that best suits their professional and personal needs. We also incorporate the possibility of working up to 90 days a year from anywhere in the world. We focus on creating work environments based on trust, which provide autonomy to undertake, take risks and innovate”, explained Miranda.
The board of directors also pointed out that the company’s growth goes hand in hand with the great penetration of electronic commerce, which accelerated after the pandemic and multiplied the number of user transactions.
Only in 2022, Mercado Libre delivered one billion packages through its own logistics network since the company has 19 storage centers distributed in Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Argentina.
In the last 12 months, the company, created 23 years ago in the country, processed more than US$100 billion in payments, registered more than US$10 billion in revenues, and the operating result surpassed the mark for the first time. of US$1 billion.
With a year-over-year increase of 8.8 million active users, the total number of users in the ecosystem passed the 148 million mark by the end of 2022.
