At first I never knew mold allergy could come from food. My mom and I share the same allergy. Humid places, a climate with high humidity, old clothes or books always give us difficult breathing or other mild asthma symptoms. But when my mother was diagnosed with a food allergy, I just realized that there are many foods that use mold in processing. Who can have this allergy? Do both food and air mold allergies always coincide? And how to cure it? Keep reading…

Molds, as well as mildew, belong to the mold family. They differ from other plants or animals by their unique methods of reproduction. Their seeds are called spores. When an allergic patient inhales spores, they may have symptoms such as sneezing and difficult breathing. Besides in the air, mold can also grow in food. Although it is only a small percentage, people with an allergy to respiratory mold can also have the same food allergy. My mother can’t eat foods that have been processed with mould, such as soy sauce, ‘tempeh’ or fermented cassava, while I don’t share that allergy.

While not a processed food, peanut can also trigger allergy to the fungus alpha toxin, a toxin that can be found in corn, wheat, soybeans and sorghum, as well as peanuts. Other foods that can trigger the allergy include mushrooms, cantaloupe, berries, beer, smoked meats, and some grains, as well as some cheeses, such as blue cheese. Other dairy products, such as milk, are believed to contain alpha toxin if it comes from cows fed moldy feed. The most common molds in food are Aspergillus and Rhizopus.

So how can we prevent and cure mold allergy from our diet?

As with other food allergies, the best course of action is to stay away from foods you are allergic to. You should have an allergy test to confirm the exact food items that are causing your food allergy and include those foods in your restricted diet. Some people try organic foods to stay healthier. However, because organic products do not contain chemical fungicides, they can become moldy more quickly than non-organic products.

How to cure?

Allergy is a body reaction to a toxic situation. In most cases, toxins that cause allergies end up in a non-natural substance. It also happens with mold allergy. Therefore, the attempt to cure the allergy by pharmaceutical drugs does not seem appropriate, since those drugs are also toxic.

The best way to cure this allergy and other allergies is natural healing. Herbal therapy, homeopathy and acupuncture/acupressure are some of the natural medication methods you can try. Suddenly stopping pharmaceutical medication is of course also unwise. You should consult your doctor before slowly replacing your treatment with a natural remedy.
