A robbery of a Turkish diplomat’s truck by two motorcycle jets led to a fierce police chase with crossfire in which one of the criminals died. It happened in the early hours of this Sunday in Palermo.
The attack occurred around 3 a.m. in the Las Cañitas neighborhood, at the intersection of Soldado de la Independencia and Gorostiaga streets. There, two motorcycle jets crossed a Volkswagen T Cross truck with two foreigners on board: a diplomat from Turkey and his driver.
After stealing the vehicle, one of the criminals fled in the truck and the other fled at the same time on his motorcycle. Alerted by the 911 call, agents from Neighborhood Police Station 14C managed to intercept the truck at Libertador Avenue and Sarmiento Street. From there, a violent chase began with several police vehicles.
After several blocks of flight, the stolen truck – which did not have a diplomatic use license – was crossed by one of the patrols on Salguero and Gelly streets, a few meters from Avenida Figueroa Alcorta: the criminal lost control and collided the truck against a parked car.
According to the city police, after the impact there was a shootout between the perpetrator and the police officers, which led to the death of the motorcyclist.
Police sources confirmed to Clarín that the deceased was around 30 years old, slim, dark-skinned, with short hair and around 1.75 meters tall. And officers found a firearm in the stolen vehicle.

A diplomat from the Turkish embassy and his driver were victims of the attack. The police operation managed to intercept the stolen truck and the thief was killed. His partner fled.
As a result of the chase, one of the police officers was injured by a blow to the back (a type of whiplash) and was taken to the Fernández Hospital to undergo the appropriate examinations and to rule out any complications. His life is reportedly not in danger.
PFA Homicide Squad members are currently on duty at the scene and the area is completely cordoned off. Meanwhile, the city police are checking the security cameras in the area to find the other criminal who managed to escape.
The case is being investigated by the Criminal and Correctional Court No. 25, which has ordered that all actions in this case be the responsibility of the Federal Police, since it concerns a foreign diplomat.
