New Mexico man charged with murder of motorcyclist

New Mexico’s Jacob David Castillo, 30, has been charged with murder following a shooting involving outlaw biker gangs at a Red River motorcycle rally that left three men dead, state police said.

The three deceased have been identified as Anthony Silva, 26, of Los Lunas, Damian Breaux, 46, of Socorro, and Randy Sanchez, 46, of Albuquerque.

One of the injured, 41-year-old Christopher Garcia of Texas, was arrested on unrelated charges. He was charged with possession of cocaine and was placed in the detention center after being released from hospital.

In addition, 39-year-old Mathew Charles Jackson of Austin, Texas was charged with unlawfully carrying a firearm in a drinking establishment and was also incarcerated at the detention center.

Castillo was injured in the incident and is currently hospitalized. After his release, he will be transferred to the Taos County Detention Center.

Authorities reportedly said on Sunday that the deceased were members of rival gangs and that the violence had come after an earlier altercation in Albuquerque.

The Red River incident occurred at the 41st Annual Red River Memorial Motorcycle Rally on Saturday. State police said gunfire was reported in the East Main Street area of ​​Red River around 5 p.m. local time.

Officers arrived on scene and found two dead and six injured. Five of the injured were transported to local hospitals, where one was later pronounced dead. The sixth injured person was airlifted to a Denver hospital.

The current condition of all the injured is not known.

All eight individuals involved were identified as “OMG members”. The Justice Department says OMGs, or “Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs,” are organizations whose members use their motorcycle clubs as conduits for criminal enterprises. There are over 300 active OMGs in the United States. The Associated Press said Saturday’s shooting involved the Bandidos and the Waterdogs.

The other four injured have not yet been charged. Authorities said they would not be identified unless they are eventually charged with a crime.

Red River Mayor Linda Calhoun said the first officer was on the scene within 30 seconds.

Most of Main Street was closed to the public on Sunday after the shooting, and police reportedly asked businesses in the area to remain closed.

The case is still being investigated by the New Mexico State Police Investigation Bureau, with assistance from the New Mexico State Police Crime Scene Team.
