Overseas visitors to Canada doubled from the latter

Facts Statistics Canada shows that the number of overseas residents to Canada has nearly doubled to 281,400 in March 2023, up from 148,900 visitors in March last year.

While the number of trips to Canada is still below pre-pandemic levels, the StatCan report released Tuesday shows that Canada is making significant progress in welcoming tourists. the same month in 2019.

When it comes to the countries of origin of overseas visitors to Canada, data from March 2023 shows that more than two-fifths (114,700) of them arrived from Europe, up from 68,800 in March 2022 and four-fifths (83.7 percent) of the level reached seen in March 2019.

Of the total foreign visitors, 72,400 came from Asia, more than half (58.5 percent) of the number of arrivals in March 2019.

The data also indicates that about 1.1 million trips have been made by US residents. This figure is nearly two and a half times higher than the number of trips made by US residents in March 2022 (465,200) and accounts for about three-quarters (74.4 percent) of trips made in March 2019.

According to the data, of the 1.1 million arrivals in the US, 779,400 were by car, and 52.6 percent of these returned on the same day. It shows that the number of arrivals by car also increased by two and a half times compared to the same month in 2022 (310,300), reaching more than three quarters (76.3 percent) in March 2019.

The number of Canadians returning from travel to the US has reached 3.3 million, a significant increase of two and a half times compared to March 2022 (1.3 million trips) and 82.6 percent of the level seen in the same month in 20219 was recorded.

The report also shows that of total round-trip travel by Canadian residents in March 2023, two million were by car, and two-thirds (61.1 percent) of those were on the same day. In addition, 1.3 million per plane (more than double compared to the same month in 2022) and an increase of 14.0 percent compared to March 2019.

StatCan says this is the seventh consecutive month in which the number of round-trip air travel has surpassed pre-pandemic levels, starting from September 2022.

When it comes to Canadian residents who traveled abroad, data shows that 915,200 Canadian residents returned from abroad in March 2023, an increase of 33.6 percent compared to the same time last year and equivalent to nearly two-thirds (63.3 percent) in 2019.
