The flood emergency continues in the Emilia-Romagna area, while the red alert, according to the authorities, will continue throughout this Monday.

10,000 people have already returned to their homes, but there are still another 26,000 displaced. In Sant’Agata bulldozers have started working to repair a railway bridge damaged by the floods that hit the Emilia Romagna region in Italy, floods described as the worst that the country has experienced during this century.

The torrential rains pushed the rivers out of their beds and 14 people lost their lives from the floods, while roads and towns in northeastern Italy turned into rivers.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, upon returning to Italy from the G7 summit held in Hiroshima, Japan, visits the destroyed cities in the areas of Forlì and Ravenna. She promised the citizens reconstruction and compensation for all the material things they have lost.

The death of 14 people and the floods that ravaged northeastern Italy were a “warning” about climate change, say environmental activists, who have painted one of Rome’s most famous fountains, the Fontana Di Trevi, black in protest.

Activists from the anti-climate change organization Last Generation climbed up to the historic fountain and poured a plant-based carbon liquid before police intervened to disperse them.
