Under the motto “New salaries”, the country’s prime minister Edi Rama has promised to double the average salary by 2024, thus reaching the historical peak.

“We will proudly reach 900 euro average salary”, said Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Economic experts see this promise with more skepticism.

“The salary increase has been promised in such a way that it is comparable to pyramid firms. There is 0 chance that the government will increase wages to 900 euros by 2024. It is an absurd statement and a brazen electoral lie. It is not possible that in an economy that grows by 5% per year, you make moves, i.e. salary increases by 20% per year, because the money comes from this economy that grows by 5% per year. Money cannot come out of nothing.

Another factor that is very important, we must take into account that Edi Rama I made lek concessions and did not make salaries. So as long as he has made concessions and the concessionary contracts continue to be paid, of course he has no money to pay higher wages. It is a shameless lie of a prime minister who is facing the responsibility that he has been in government for 10 years and the economy is not growing.

Such a situation existed in Serbia, a decade after the fall of Milosevic, when the government held elections once every two years. Every time he made an election, he raised wages by 20%, this caused prices to rise by 20%, then elections were held and everything started over.

We are not in the same conditions, since the Central Bank is independent and has not given signs that it will finance the government directly, therefore this remains a pre-electoral fairy tale”, explains Gjergji Erebara, an expert on the Economy.
