Sam Altman won’t be returning to OpenAI

Talks over reinstating co-founder and former CEO Sam Altman at OpenAI have apparently damaged down. In keeping with The Data and Bloomberg, the board has now employed Altman’s fellow Twitch co-founder Emmett Shear as OpenAI’s new interim CEO. This appointment was apparently introduced internally by co-founder and board director Ilya Sutskever.

Altman was initially fired from OpenAI over “a breakdown in communication between Sam and the board,” in keeping with an oddly blunt inner employees memo revealed by Axios earlier. The information was subsequently adopted by resignations from a number of key members, together with co-founder Greg Brockman (who was appointed because the chairman of the board), together with a couple of senior researchers.
