Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz is urging the House to look into impeaching President Biden after an IRS whistleblower on the Hunter Biden investigation told Congress that the president’s son called on his father to use WhatsApp to pressure a Chinese business partner and claimed that the elder Biden in the room while making deals.

Asked at what point the investigation and issues related to Hunter Biden become a problem for the president, which could lead to impeachment attempts by Republicans, Cruz said, “It is now.”

“Look, this WhatsApp is direct evidence that Joe Biden is abusing his government power to enrich his son and, assuming 10% for the big man, to enrich himself,” Cruz continued. “Remember, this WhatsApp says ‘we want to know.’ This isn’t just me, Hunter, making fun of my father… Of course the House should investigate, but the amazing thing is what the IRS (Department of Justice) whistleblower says, Merrick Garland even prevented an investigation into this message.” I

Cruz discussed allegations of an IRS whistleblower released this week by House Republicans where a Hunter Biden probe investigator claimed that unprecedented efforts were made to prevent investigations into Joe Biden during the 2020 campaign and into his presidency.

Whistleblower Gary Shapley Jr. — who oversaw the IRS investigation into the president’s son — said the IRS received a July 30, 2017 WhatsApp message from Hunter Biden to Henry Zhao, CEO of Harvest Fund Management, in which Hunter claimed that he was with his father and asked him to pressure Zhao to keep a commitment.

“And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang or the chairman, I will make sure that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to always holding a grudge that you will regret if you don’t follow my directions.”

“I’m sitting here waiting for the call with my dad,” Hunter Biden reportedly said.

“This WhatsApp directly connects Joe Biden to the millions of dollars coming out of communist China,” Cruz said. “Now it’s possible that Hunter Biden lied, it’s possible that Joe Biden wasn’t next to him. It’s possible that Joe Biden wouldn’t do official harm to the Chinese if they didn’t pay him and his son millions of dollars. You can, but you know what, we don’t know if it’s true or not. Why? Because, according to the whistleblower, they did not investigate and were forbidden to investigate. They weren’t even allowed to ask the question. “

“Let me be clear: this is prima facie obstruction of justice,” he said. “And if Merrick Garland issued that warrant, he’s the one blocking the investigation, and I think there’s real evidence that Merrick Garland is guilty of obstruction of justice.”

Cruz, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee who has served in the Senate since 2013, said, “If you had a single Democrat giving a flying smack about the rule of law, we’d be having a hearing right now with Merrick Garland in the front of us, under ede, questions about this WhatsApp,” he said. “We would ask to see every document, we would ask to see every email, we would ask to see every communication between DOJ and the investigators. We would put the IRS whistleblowers on the stand, under oath to say it to testify, and we would confront Merrick Garland about it.”

“The chances of the Senate Judiciary Committee doing that are zero, because[Chairman]Dick Durbin doesn’t care,” he added. “No Senate Democrat cares, but the House does, so that’s the only hope to look into this.”

If the claims in the WhatsApp message are correct, they are in stark contrast to President Biden’s repeated insistence that he had no knowledge of son Hunter’s business dealings.

When asked by a reporter Friday whether the WhatsApp message undermines the president’s claims that he had no knowledge of his son’s overseas activities, John Kirby, the National Security Council’s strategic communications coordinator, replied: “No, and I’m going here. no further comment.”

“As we have also said many times, the Justice Department makes independent decisions in its criminal investigations, and in this case the White House has not been involved,” Sams continued. “As the president has said, he loves his son and is proud to take responsibility for his actions and is proud of what he is doing to rebuild his life.”
