Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers rescued two abandoned migrant children from Guatemala near the Texas border on Monday morning.

The children, ages 8 and 11, were found abandoned at the edge of the Rio Grande River in Eagle Pass, according to a social media post from Texas DPS spokesperson Chris Olivarez.

Olivarez said the children told troopers that an adult woman left them at the edge of the river in Mexico and told them to cross the river.

The rescue comes as waves of migrants continue to illegally enter the US, often paying smugglers and entrusting them with their lives.
