The Russia Today (RT) Balkan channel, a Russian channel that operates and broadcasts from the territory of Serbia, has been included in the list of entities that the European Union will sanction in the 11th package of sanctions against Russia.

Radio Free Europe has had access to the prepared decision of the EU where it can be seen that this channel is included to be sanctioned.

It is learned from diplomatic sources that the EU has officially submitted the list of all entities that will be added to the list of sanctions, and RT Balkan is also there.

Among the media that will be sanctioned, because they are accused of spreading Russian propaganda and spreading misinformation, are also the platforms: “Oriental review”, “Tsargrad”, “Kategon” and “New Western Outlook”.

According to this decision, the sanctions against these media will come into effect on October 1 of this year.

Russia Today for the Balkans, based in Belgrade, started broadcasting in Serbian in November 2022, half a year after the start of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

The aim of the latest package of EU sanctions against Russia is to prevent the evasion of sanctions through third countries.

The Russia Today channel is already under EU sanctions, but not some branches that this medium has in countries outside Russia and outside the EU.
