Five days ago, Laura, the wife of goalkeeper and Nathaniel Méndez-Laing’s Derby County teammate, Joshua Vickers, died after losing the battle against cancer, and this Saturday, people gave her all their love by lovingly remembering her at the meeting between the rams and Cambridge.

It should be noted that this tragic moment took place just three months after getting married, with Vickers himself spreading the news through his social networks.

The tragic death occurs just three months after their wedding celebration, an event that took place last June.

“I’ve written and deleted this so many times and I still can’t find the right words to say and I don’t know if I ever will. “On Tuesday night my wife lost her long battle with cancer…” wrote Vickers, his voice rising.

“Laura is the strongest, bravest and most loving person I have ever met. Despite everything that was going on, she continued to smile, never letting anything get in the way of having a good time and making a lifetime of memories,” he continued in her post, loaded with sentiment.

In this regard, his club did not lose humanity and in a nice gesture, took the photograph of which Vickers accompanied the publication to use it at half an hour of the match on matchday 10 in the English League One.

Giving it much more relevance, since the gesture had the symbolism of being carried out at minute 31. This number being the number usually worn by the goalkeeper, who, by the way, was not in the game for his coach, Paul Warne.

Instead, Warne fielded Joseph Wildsmith in goal, who can be seen in footage of the thunderous applause that occurred on the Pride Park stadium pitch.

Likewise, Warne started with the Guatemalan team, who completed the ninety minutes in the duel against “the U’s”.

At the end of the match, Nathaniel himself dedicated a story on his Instagram account with the photo of the newlyweds and an emoji as a sign of support for Vickers.

This season, Nathaniel has nine games, no goals and yes, three assists in ten League One dates.

Of these assists, the last one he gave to James Collins stands out, in the 0-2 victory against Carlisle United on September 23.

With this tie, Derby County is in 12th place in the standings with 14 points, registering 4 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses.
