In addition, Tobias Halland Johannessen was the first to cross the iconic Tourmalet mountain.

“2023 was the year the magic of the Tour returned to Norway,” writes Jens Haugland, CEO of Uno-X, on Twitter.

MOUNTAIN GOAT: This summer, Tobias Halland Johannessen did something no Norwegian has done before: he asserted himself in the mountains in the Tour de France.

The three weeks on the road in France were also a success for TV 2 compared to previous years.

An average of 86,000 viewers followed the broadcasts of this year’s Tour de France. Last year there were 60,000 and in 2021 there were 63,000 who followed the journey on TV 2. After a declining interest in cycling, the numbers are on the rise again.

– We needed this, we did. That’s largely Uno-X’s credit. The fact that Norwegian riders are creating excitement and making a mark, and not just in a sprint, means we can broaden our horizons and so interest can grow throughout the Tour de France, sports editor Vegard Jansen Hagen tells VG on TV 2.

However, it is still far from the best year TV 2 has had with the Tour de France. Averaged 173,000 views in 2015.

HAPPY: Vegard Jansen Hagen in TV 2 looks forward to the cycling future on TV after the successful tour of Uno-X.

In previous years, Norway’s chances of winning in France were largely on the flat stages in the bunch sprints with names like Thor Hushovd, Edvald Boasson Hagen and Alexander Kristoff.

Tobias Halland Johannessen (23) was close to victory on several mountain stages this year and there are several young, strong Norwegian climbers on the way.

– We know there are a lot of promising Norwegian cyclists on the way, and that’s what we’ve been telling ourselves for a few lean years as we waited for the payoff for the next generation, and this year we’re seeing the first signs of how good this can be, says Jansen Hagen.

He will be surprised if we don’t see Uno-X in France next year.

– I will be very disappointed if they are not included next year. It will be important to us, and it must be a really good application that they put in this year, he says.

Several people agree.

Under this tweet from the official Tour de France Twitter account, the Norwegian team is receiving unison tributes from cycling fans around the world.

Most beg the organizer to invite Uno-X to the Tour de France again in 2024.

“Fantastic addition to the tour. They eased the breaks for three weeks and showed the world that continental teams have a lot to offer,” writes one user.

“Fantastic tour, we missed a team so offensive,” another user writes in French.

Whether Uno-X will receive an invitation to the Tour de France 2024 will probably be announced in January.
