Turkey commemorated music teacher Şenay Aybüke Yalçın on the anniversary of her death on Friday, 6 years after she was brutally murdered by the terrorist organization PKK.
As a result of the arrogant attack on the vehicle of the mayor of Kozluk district of Batman on June 9, 2017, 22-year-old Yalçın was traveling in the minibus in the convoy.
The perpetrator of the attack was neutralized by Turkish security forces in March 2018.
The PKK, which has been listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the USA and the EU, has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, children and babies, in its 35-year terror campaign against Turkey.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan commemorated Yalçın.
“I commemorate our teacher Şenay Aybüke Yalçın, who has no other purpose than to serve the nation, on the anniversary of his traitor’s martyrdom,” Erdogan said on his Twitter account. said.
He confirmed Turkey’s determination to fight the PKK terrorist organization, which “separated our beloved Aybüke from her family, loved ones and students”.
Deputy President Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya and Head of Communications Fahrettin Altun shared messages honoring Yalçın.
Teacher’s memory kept alive
Yalçın’s memory lives on through various initiatives such as schools, libraries, art workshops, parks and streets named after him, as well as commemoration events.
The name of the young teacher was given to the high school he graduated from, the street where the terrorist attack took place, and the orchestra hall of Necmettin Erbakan University in Konya, where he graduated.
He also reserved a course for himself, where he started his master’s degree at Batman University. Last year, a public library bearing its name was opened in the capital Ankara by the Keçiören Municipality.
In addition, a table tennis tournament was held in 2017, and a Turkish Folk Music solo voice competition was held in his memory in 2018.
Yalçın, whose life was tragically cut short while he wanted to become an academic, is commemorated every year on June 9, Teacher’s Day, at his grave where the attack took place and at the beginning of the school where he taught, and is commemorated with respect.
Şenay Aybüke Yalçın Science High School Principal Nazmi Altuner, who had the privilege of working with Yalçın, spoke lovingly of the deep impact on the school, colleagues and students.
Explaining that there was no music lesson at the school until he came, Altuner said, “He established a music class with his own means. He brought a few instruments to the school with his own means. He was trying to make the music lesson practical.”
Rabia Arıcı, one of the students who learned to play an instrument in the school’s music class, thanked Yalçın for having the opportunity to study at her school.
He said that it was very meaningful for him to receive training in the music workshop that Yalçın founded. “I wish he could teach us music in this class, we would be very happy.”
