MultiChoice Uganda, in collaboration with the communications regulator, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and partners, has launched the Uganda Film Festival, regional competitions and training sessions in four regions in Uganda.

The competitions are part of activities to mark the 10th anniversary of the Uganda Film Festival, which has been instrumental in promoting Ugandan films and talent and a demonstration of the commitment of UCC and partners such as MultiChoice Uganda to a ​to build a thriving local film industry in Uganda since it started in 2013.

George William Nyombi Thembo, the Director of the Rural Development Communications Fund, UCC expressed the Commission’s appreciation to partners and participants.

“We are delighted to host the UFF Regional Film Competition this year as part of the 10 year celebration of the UFF, where for the first time in 10 years we will recognize and reward up to 8 regional winners in the North, East, South and West . regions,” Nyombi said.

“The appreciation goes to all the filmmakers who submitted their content within the specified timelines and ensured their submission is of high quality, and to our partners who joined us in the quest to recognize filmmakers across the country added Nyombi.

Speaking about the partnership with UCC, Rinaldi Jamugisa, PR & Communications Manager, MultiChoice Uganda, said they are excited to join UCC on a journey to empower local filmmakers and promote the growth of the local film industry as a testament to their commitment to investing in local films. contents.

“As part of our hyper-local strategy, our goal is to nurture the next generation of Ugandan filmmakers and create more opportunities for local talent to shine through initiatives such as the Regional Film Competitions and we are excited to see the creativity and talent that emerge from these competitions,” Jamugisa noted.

UCC together with partners including; Uganda Tourism Board, Airtel Uganda, UBC TV, NBS TV, Vision Group and MTN Uganda are touring the country through the different regions this week to recognize and award the Top 2 winning entries by region.

The film competitions hosted in each of the four regions provide the opportunity for existing and aspiring filmmakers to showcase their talent and compete for cash and other prizes. The competitions focus on short films that capture the unique stories and experiences of people living in Uganda, providing a glimpse into the flora and fauna of the regions’ tourist attractions, as well as culture, shared values ​​and a rich history.

The training sessions focus on MultiChoice and Mnet’s content acquisition processes for local movies and shows featured on Pearl Magic, Pearl Magic Prime and Pearl Magic Loko on the DStv and GOtv Pay TV platforms.

The regional competitions started in Gulu on May 8 at Acholi Inn, Mbale on May 10 at Mbale Resort, Masaka at Hotel Brovad on May 12 and finally in Mbarara on May 13 at Adit Mall.

These were topped off with market activations and local film screenings on the same days at Gulu City market, Mbale Cricket Grounds, St. John’s COU Kijjabwemi and Mbarara District Grounds Kamukuzi respectively.

The film competitions will take place throughout the month of May, culminating in a Uganda Film Festival awards ceremony on June 2, 2023, where regional winners will be recognized.
