Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni denied rumors that he had died from the COVID-19 virus, saying he was on the fifth day of infection and feeling much better.

“Greetings. Now is the 5th day of my corona status. Last night, I slept very well until the 10th hour of the night,” he said.

“At the beginning, on Wednesday, there were also mild muscle aches that are typical of normal flu,” he said, adding that the muscle aches are now gone, as well as feeling better from the throat infection.

Rumors have been circulating recently on the social media platform that Museveni was taken to intensive care and later died due to complications from COVID-19.

But he denied all such rumors in a Twitter message, stating that he is currently in self-isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 and following the country’s standard operating procedures (SOPs).

On June 7, the president tested positive for the virus and went on “mandatory leave” from his office the next day.

“However, we did the corona tests today and they still came back positive. We’ll wait a few more days and check again. I stay in self-isolation in Nakasero. Again, my advice to all of you is to get the corona vaccines completely and for the elderly to take supplements,” he said.

The World Health Organization acknowledged last month that COVID-19 is not a global health emergency, but warned that the virus will continue to mutate.
