More than two million children have been forced to flee Ukraine since the war began, according to UNICEF.

The startling figures come as part of a report by the charity ahead of World Refugee Day.

According to the report, another million children have been displaced within the war-torn country.

“For more than a decade, the number of children forced to leave their homes has grown at an alarming rate, and our global capacity to respond remains under serious strain,” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell.

“The growth is in step with the ongoing onslaught of conflicts, crises and climate disasters around the world.

But the report also highlights the overwhelming response of many governments to ensure that every refugee and internally displaced child can continue to learn, stay healthy and develop to their full potential.”
