The White Home condemned “within the strongest phrases” ongoing anti-Israel protests at schools throughout the U.S., together with at Columbia College in New York Metropolis, on Sunday, saying they haven’t any place wherever within the U.S.
“Whereas each American has the correct to peaceable protest, requires violence and bodily intimidation focusing on Jewish college students and the Jewish group are blatantly Antisemitic, unconscionable, and harmful – they’ve completely no place on any faculty campus, or wherever in the US of America,” White Home Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates stated. “And echoing the rhetoric of terrorist organizations, particularly within the wake of the worst bloodbath dedicated in opposition to the Jewish individuals for the reason that Holocaust, is despicable. We condemn these statements within the strongest phrases.”
Anti-Israel agitators occupied the college’s south garden for hours on Wednesday whereas the college’s president, Minouche Shafik, testified earlier than congress in regards to the antisemitism on Columbia’s campus.
An encampment with tents was arrange on the principle garden of campus, and the protests continued into the night time and for days.

Protests have referred to as for an intifada and the demise of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. One Jewish Columbia College scholar was even advised to “kill your self” and repeatedly kicked within the abdomen throughout the protests.
Tensions continued to construct, and on Thursday, the New York Metropolis Police Division arrested 108 individuals who refused to go away the encampment, every of whom was issued a summons for trespassing.
Fox Information discovered that the college started handing out suspension notices to college students who have been arrested on Thursday.

The college issued an announcement in regards to the protest.

“As President Shafik has stated repeatedly, the protection of our group is our primary precedence,” the college stated. “Columbia college students have the correct to protest, however they aren’t allowed to disrupt campus life or harass and intimidate fellow college students and members of our group. We’re appearing on considerations we’re listening to from our Jewish college students and are offering further help and assets to make sure that our group stays secure.”
