The Municipal Traffic Police (PMT) of Villa Nueva confirmed the closure of a lane in the descent of Villalobos, due to work that was carried out on the afternoon of this Thursday, July 6, due to a pothole that formed at kilometer 11.5.
Due to the vehicular load, it was reported that traffic is quite slow on that route, from the Trébol sector.
The congestion is due to the fact that the Road Maintenance Executing Unit (Covial) carries out maintenance work in both directions of Villalobos and the route to the Pacific, for which reason it was warned that mobility is slow.
Regarding the incident at km 11.5, it was reported by Covial that there are “cracked plates that have deteriorated over the years”, so they must be demolished and replaced.
“Due to the heavy rains, the water leaked and deteriorated the base, then they settled and cracked a couple more centimeters,” the institution responded to the queries made by this means of communication.
Currently, according to Covial, a team is working to place a layer of mix to level the settlement of the affected land, on which a plate with new hydraulic concrete is placed.
On April 21, 2023, during a tour, several incidents that affect the descent of the Villalobos were alerted, considering that it is one of the main sections for traffic circulation of thousands of residents of Guatemala City and the southern part of the country.
As documented on that occasion and in anticipation of the rainy season, the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) carried out a series of evaluations.

When inquiring about the status of the route and the incident reported at km 11.5 of Villalobos, Covial indicated that “there is no risk on the slope as has been discussed on social networks.”
For its part, Conred did not respond to the evaluations and limited itself to indicating that there are studies, but that these should be required for access to information.

The Villa Nueva PMT alerted the drivers who travel on both roads of Villalobos and towards the Pacific, since due to the work the circulation is being affected in several sections of the route.
To the north, asphalt works are also being carried out from km 22, which will be extended at night, starting at 9:00 p.m., confirmed the PMT spokesman, Henry Quevedo.
