Relatives and close friends of the lawyer and former judge of the Roatán courts reacted with deep pain, Alfred Hockersmith Asten (45 years old), after learning of his tragic death in this city.

The legal professional died Tuesday night from several bullet wounds that hitmen inflicted on him.

The crime took place on the CA-13 highway, a few meters from the turnoff for the Garífuna community of Corozal, in La Ceiba.

Alfred Hockersmith had just arrived in La Ceiba to meet with clients. It was known that he was kidnapped by strangers leaving an establishment. Once on the outskirts of the city, they took him out of the vehicle at gunpoint and, already vulnerable on the road, they forced him to kneel and shot him, falling dead instantly on his back.

“Alfred Hockersmith was one of the best lawyers born in the Bay Islands. It is with great sadness that I say may his soul rest in peace. He is gone but he will never be forgotten,” friends said, to quote some of the comments on social media.

Alfred Hockersmith, who was originally from the island of Guanaja, graduated as a lawyer in Tegucigalpa and shortly after obtained an opportunity to work in criminal matters in the Roatán courts. About ten years ago he had retired and was serving in his private law firm.
