Louisville shooting live updates: 5 dead; suspect had

The suspected gunman, 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon, was armed with a rifle when he reportedly carried out a mass shooting at the Old National Bank, where he worked, according to police.

The suspect was livestreaming, police said, though officials declined to elaborate.

According to the authorities, the suspect was killed by the police.

Nine people were hospitalized, including three who are currently in critical condition, said Dr. Jason Smith, chief medical officer of the University of Louisville Health. Three victims are in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the three others have been released, Smith said.

Among the nine injured is 26-year-old police officer Nickolas Wilt, who police say was shot in the head as he ran toward the gunfire. He underwent brain surgery and is in critical but stable condition, police said.

Wilt just graduated from the police academy on March 31.

The four victims killed were identified by police as Joshua Barrick, 40; Thomas Elliott, 63; Juliana Boer, 45; and James Tutt, 64.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said Elliott was “a very good friend of mine” and of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.

“This was a malicious act of targeted violence,” the mayor said.

The mayor said he also survived a workplace shooting, telling survivors, “Whether you’re physically injured or not, I know you’re hurting too.”

“Today I am hurt and in pain, and I know there are so many people out there as well,” said Beshear. “Today we lost four children of God, one who is one of my best friends. Tommy Elliott helped me build my career as a lawyer, helped me run for governor, gave me advice to be a good father… . He was an incredible friend.”

The governor said of all four victims, “These are irreplaceable, wonderful individuals.”
