The federal government, Ontario, Stellantis and LG Energy Solution have been in tough negotiations for several weeks after the companies halted construction of their planned plant in a dispute over federal subsidies.

The negotiations are stuck between what Canada thinks is fair and affordable and what the company thinks it owes.

Stellantis has threatened to move the plant from Windsor if it doesn’t get what the federal government promised in a deal reached in February.

Champagne has said it has made an offer similar to what the federal government and Ontario made to Volkswagen for an electric vehicle battery plant in St. Thomas, Ontario.

That deal could be worth $13 billion over 10 years.
